Kheti Virasat Mission and Dr. John Fagan’s concern on the subject of the genetically modified seeds

The Kheti Virasat Mission (KVM) a voluntary organization in the field of sustainable agriculture in Punjab have been educating the farmers about the negative impact of the genetically modified seeds on health of humane being as well as on the health of the animals.

Dr. John Fagan, a molecular biologist from USA is touring Punjab state to aware the farmers against the genetically modified seeds. Dr. John Fagan along with his wife Dr. Susel, cautioned the villagers that the western multinationals dumping such technology on developing countries just to reduce their losses.

Dr. John Fagan who spent more then two decades in research works on genetic engineering clarify that the approach towards genetic engineering is hazardous and incomplete. He emphasized that the genetically modified seeds could do more harm then the good.

He gave an example of the genetically modified soybeans which created the allergenic reaction in the USA and Brazil and potatoes were found to have caused wound in the gut walls of rats.

He also has stressed harmful impact on the environment because of the excessive use of toxin and mutagenic agricultural chemicals. It also pollutes the air, water and soil that lead towards cancer and birth defects beside other diseases.

The concerned government should heed and clarify their stand. The Government should pay serious attention to save the health of the peoples.
